KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Following a tough home loss to Indianapolis on Saturday evening, Lewis women's basketball turned around less than 48 hours later and 500 miles from home to defeat Rockhust 62-44 on Monday afternoon.

Rockhurst's only lead of the contest came by scoring the first basket of the game. Lewis scored the next six points and never looked back. Lewis recorded assists on 13 of their 21 baskets. The Flyers never let the Hawks back in the game in the second half by adding on to their 11-point halftime lead.

Lewis limited Rockhurst to 18 points in the first half. It is the fourth time this year Lewis has held an opponent to fewer than 20 points in the first half.

Senior Kady Currin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) had a game-high 14 points thanks to making 2-of-2 treys and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. She also added four assists and three steals. Senior Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) scored 10 points. Sophomore Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) provided nine points and four steals.

Lewis limited Rockhurst to 25.0 percent (13-of-52) shooting while forcing 21 Rockhurst turnovers.

"We played with a lot of energy on the defensive end, especially in the first half," head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "We were able to turn that defensive intensity into transition baskets."

The Flyers started a new starting five for the contest which contributed to 10 Flyers playing double-digit minutes.

Rockhurst falls to 4-13 (0-9 Great Lakes Valley Conference). Lewis improves to 8-8 (4-4 GLVC). Lewis is back in action on Thursday against Drury at 5:30 p.m. The contest from Neil Carey Arena will be aired live on Lakeshore Public Television.
