OWENSBORO, Ky. - Lewis women's basketball made 8-of-13 3-point attempts during a 72-61 road Great Lakes Valley Conference victory at Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) was 7-of-10 from the floor with a game-high 15 points. She also added three steals and three assists. Seniors Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) and Kelly Monaco (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) each had 12 points. Monaco scored her 12 points thanks to three 3-pointers and three free throws.
Kentucky Wesleyan scored the first five points of the game only to see Lewis score the next 11. The Panthers advanced within a point of Lewis at 17-16 midway through the first half. The Flyers followed with a 13-2 run to take control of the game. The Flyers made three treys in the push. Lewis led 37-25 at halftime and held a lead as large as 23 in the second half.
The Flyers shot 54.2 percent from the floor. The Flyers limited the Panthers to 39.3 percent shooting and forced 22 turnovers.
"I'm really proud of our defensive effort," head coach Lisa Carlsen said "We got a little sloppy at the end and gave up some late threes, but we worked hard this afternoon."
The Flyers improve to 6-0 in day games this season.
Kentucky Wesleyan falls to 11-8 (5-7 GLVC). Lewis improves to 10-10 (6-6 GLVC). The Flyers are at UW-Parkside on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. start.
