No. 21 Lewis Women’s Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight With Sweep Of Maryville

ST. LOUIS – No. 21 Lewis women's volleyball earned a Great Lakes Valley Conference road victory on Saturday evening with a 25-13, 25-18, 25-13 sweep of Maryville. The contest was the Flyers' first interdivision contest of the season.  
 
“For riding on the bus for five hours we looked better than I thought we might,” head coach Lorelee Smith said. “We came out and had some fun.”
 
Junior Jillian Carlberg (Urbandale, Iowa/Waukee) (Urbandale, Iowa/Waukee) had six kills with just one error for the Flyers.
 
“Jill played well and I was happy to see her incorporate some of the things we worked on during the week in practice into the game,” Smith said.
 
Freshman Katie Fuerst (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) also added six kills on a .545 hitting percentage.
 
“Katie had some big kills,” Smith said. “She got the rest of the team excited.”
 
Sophomore Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) led Lewis with 11 digs.  
 
Maryville falls to 4-8 (1-7 GLVC). Lewis improves to 9-4 (5-3 GLVC). The Flyers don't have to travel far for their next contest as Lewis will play at Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
