Romeoville, Ill.
- The Lewis men's soccer team struck early in their Great Lakes Valley Conference match-up against No. 10 ranked Rockhurst as the Flyers' scored in the 11th minute, but the Hawks rung the bell late, as they scored with 81 seconds remaining in the contest, as both teams battled to a 1-1 (2OT) tie at Lewis Stadium on Friday (Oct. 14) night.

The Flyers jumped on the board first, as senior Aloisio Barros (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Pampulha/Marshaltown C.C.) netted his fifth goal of the season into the upper right corner of the net at 10:27. Freshman George Thomson (Kilmarnock, Scotland, Reid Kerr College) earned the assist on the tally.

The score remained the same for the next 78 minutes, before Rockhurst's Paolo Scoppola beat Flyer keeper Alec PIckett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) (Mokena, Ill./Providence) with a bicycle kick goal to even the score up at 1-apiece at the 88:39 mark. Rockhurst's Alioune Gueye assisted on the play.

With the draw, the Flyers are now 6-6-1 (6-4-1 GLVC) while the Hawks are 8-3-1 (7-3-1 GLVC).

"I thought in the first half we created chances and it could have been 2 or 3-0," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "In the second half, I thought we dominated play, but we just couldn't put the ball in the net.

"It comes down to defensive restarts in the end," Fiffles continued. "We gave up a corner and a throw late in the game. The ball stayed alive and the guy put it in. It's disappointing for something like that to happen with a little over a minute left, but you're going to win some of these games and lose some like this."

The Flyers host William Jewell on Sunday (Oct. 16) afternoon at 2:30 p.m. to wrap up the four-game home stand.
