Rolla, Mo. -
The four-game unbeaten streak for the Lewis University men's soccer team came to an end, as Missouri S&T claimed the 2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over the visiting Flyers at the Missouri S&T Soccer Field on Friday (Oct. 21) night.

"(Missouri S&T) was a better team today," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "They worked harder, they outhustled us and they defended the goal better than us."

With the win, Missouri S&T improves to 10-4-1 on the season and 8-4-1 in conference play, while the Flyers fall to 7-7-1 on the campaign and 7-5-1 in GLVC action.

The Miners did not waste any time getting on the board, as junior Peter Haw beat Flyer goalkeeper Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) (Mokena, Ill./Providence) for a score in the third minute. Jervis Altagana assisted on the play with a cross to the top of the box which Haw sent into the upper right corner of the frame for the goal.

Missouri S&T tacked on an insurance goal in the second half when Ryan Muich converted a penalty kick at the 55:25 mark to put the Miners ahead 2-0.

The Miners' defense was up to the task as well, as they held Lewis to 12 shots and did not allow a shot on frame to preserve the shutout.

"They had a lot of guys in front of the goal," Fiffles said. "We just couldn't get behind them and get good shots."

Lewis returms to action on Sunday (Oct. 23), as the Flyers head to Springfield, Mo., to square off with Drury for a 2:30 p.m. (CST) first kick.
