ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis women's soccer concluded the 2011 season on Wednesday evening with a 3-2 overtime loss to UW-Parkside at Lewis Stadium. It was the Flyers' fifth overtime loss of the season and the third in as many games.

“It's been the story of our season right here,” head coach Chris Koenig said of the overtime loss.

It was 2-1 when Lewis junior Shelley Hadlock (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) scored her second goal of the game and third of the season at 78:59. She cleaned up a shot off a free kick by junior Fran Abate (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) that hit the crossbar. Abate picked up an assist on the goal.

The Rangers won the game at the 94:55 mark in overtime on a goal by Kristen Benson. Shannon Becker earned the assist. Benson's shot was placed perfectly into the upper right corner of the goal.

The Rangers were the first team to get on the scoreboard when Stephanie Barsuli scored in the 26th minute.

Lewis junior Shelley Hadlock (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) scored her first goal of the game by jumping on a bouncing ball in the box at 26:51. The goal was assisted by junior Jenny Hyde (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake) (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake).

UW-Parkside made it 2-1 with a Shannon Becker goal in the 33rd minute. She scored on a shot into the right corner from 20 yards out.

“I'm proud of the fight we showed today,” Koenig said. “(They) knew what was on the line and left everything out on the field. I couldn't have asked for more from them today.”

UW-Parkside improves to 11-2-2 overall and 11-2-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Flyers finish the 2011 season one spot out of the final GLVC Tournament spot with a 6-9-1 (6-8-1 GLVC) record.
