Southern Indiana Rallies For 2-1 (2 OT) Victory Over Lewis Women’s Soccer

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. –
Lewis women's soccer dropped a 2-1 double overtime decision to Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Southern Indiana on Friday evening at the Lewis Multi-Purpose Athletic Complex. It is Lewis' second overtime loss in three contests.
 
Lewis was 10 minutes away from a victory until USI's Susan Ellsperman jumped on a rebound of a shot by Lavonia Lewis to tie the game up at one in the 81st minute.
 
USI won the game in the second overtime on a tally by Makenzie Brinker. She took a long pass from Katelan Carneal, drove toward the net and scored. The goal came at 101:33
 
The Flyers' lone goal of the contest came with four minutes remaining in the first half. Freshman Susan Thomas (Algonquin, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) (Algonquin, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) let go of a strike from the top of the box into the top of the goal. It was her third goal of the season. Junior Danielle Warner (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) earned the assist on the goal by finding Thomas in space.
 
“We weren't good enough for the entire 90 minutes of the game,” head coach Chris Koenig said. “We're struggling right now figuring how to close games out.”
 
Southern Indiana improves to 5-6-1 (5-4-0 GLVC). Lewis falls to 4-5-1 (4-4-1 GLVC). The Flyers host Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday at noon.
