No. 19 Northeastern State Bests Lewis Women's Basketball 60-55

Flyers open conference play on Thursday

HONOLULU – Lewis women's basketball concluded the Oahu Classic on Friday (Nov. 25) evening with a 60-55 loss to non-conference opponent No. 19 Northeastern State (Okla.).
 
Junior Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) led Lewis with 14 points. Freshman Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) added 12 points.
 
The Flyers won the rebounding battle 38-33.

The contest featured 10 ties and nine lead changes. The game was tied at 43 with 6:33 remaining when the Riverhawks went on an 8-1 run to earn some separation. Lewis cut the lead to three points on a basket by Johnson with 2:51 remaining but could get no closer down the stretch.
 
“Northeastern State is a very good team,” head coach Lisa Carlsen said. “We played hard and we will be able to take a lot from tonight against a team that will likely be nationally ranked for the entire season.”
 
The Riverhawks defeated Great Lakes Valley Conference member Northern Kentucky on Thursday 50-35. The pair of wins over GLVC teams improves Northeastern State to 4-0. Lewis finishes the Oahu Classic 1-1 after defeating BYU-Hawaii on Thursday. Lewis will leave the islands 2-3 overall. The Flyers dive into GLVC play on Thursday with a 5:30 p.m.  contest against Southern Indiana at Neil Carey Arena.
