Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis University's Matt Toth (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) found the bottom of the net early and often, as the junior forward scored a season-high 25 points, including a game-high eight rebounds, as the Flyers claimed the 83-57 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Saint Joseph's at Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (Feb. 10) night.

Toth went 10-for-15 from the field, including his first two career three-pointers. Those 10 buckets were a team-season high for the Flyers this season.

"We kind of rode Toth tonight," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "It was one of those games where Matt felt good and every time he shot it, we thought it was going in."

With the victory, Lewis improves to 15-11 overall and 8-7 in GLVC action while the Pumas fall to 10-13 on the season and 6-9 in conference play.

Toth was not the only Flyer to perform on Thursday, as senior guard Dennis Thomas, Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) collected 20 points in the win. Thomas has now scored at least 20 points in the Flyers' last four games.

As a team, Lewis shot 59.2% (29-for-49) from the field, while holding Saint Joseph's to a team-season low, 29.3% (17-for-58). The Flyers had more free throws (19) than the Pumas had made baskets (17) on Thursday. Lewis also claimed a team-season high, 42 rebounds to Saint Joseph's 28 caroms.

Lewis junior center Marty Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) rearranged the record books on Thursday, as the Hickory Hills, Ill., native notched five blocks to set the school-record for career blocks with 145. As a team, Lewis recorded a team-season high 11 blocks against Saint Joseph's.

"If we defend, rebound and don't turn the ball over, you give yourself a chance," Trost said. "Defensively I thought we made them struggle and take tough shots tonight."

Saint Joseph senior guard Michael Horton led the Pumas with 13 points.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 12) for `Senior Day', as the Flyers welcome UW-Parkside to Neil Carey Arena for a 3 p.m. (CST) tip-off.
