Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team knew that before anyone was going to help them in their pursuit of hosting rights in the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament, the Flyers had to help themselves first.

Lewis took care of business on their home court and on `Senior Day', as the Flyers held UW-Parkside to a 30.0% (15-for-50) shooting performance on their way to the 69-45 GLVC victory, clinching at least a tie in the GLVC North, at Neil Carey Arena on Saturday (Feb. 12) afternoon.

The win marks the third time this season and the first time since the 1997-98 campaign that Lewis has held three opponents to under 50 points in a contest. It's also the third-straight game that Lewis has held their opponent to under at least 31.5% shooting.

Lewis (16-11, 9-7 GLVC) enjoyed some more good news following the contest, as both Kentucky Wesleyan and Missouri-St. Louis lost their games, moving the Flyers into sole possession of the No. 6 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. UW-Parkside is now 8-15 overall and 5-10 in GLVC action.

Lewis senior guard Dennis Thomas, Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) led all scorers with 15 points, while junior guard Chris McClellan (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling) added 13 points, including three trifectas. Sophomore guard David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) scored nine points and added a game-high eight rebounds and four assists in the win.

"I thought we played hard and inspired," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "We were good on the defensive end on the floor and we did a much better job in the second half of limiting UW-Parkside to just one shot.

"It was a good all-around win."

UW-Parkside freshman guard Jordan Mach led the Rangers with 11 points, while sophomore Jeremy Saffold added a game-high 11 rebounds.

Lewis returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 17), as they head to Quincy for a 7:45 p.m. tip-off.
