QUINCY, Ill. - Lewis sophomore Ian Karbiener (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) hit .524 with 14 kills, eight digs and three blocks in No. 14 men's volleyball's 25-21, 25-19, 25-16 victory at Quincy on Tuesday evening in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match.

Sophomore Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) also had an impressive night. He totaled 10 kills while hitting .533. Petty and Karbiener were two of 10 Flyers to record a kill in the match.

"Ian and Jay did a nice job tonight," head coach Dan Friend said. "It was a team effort with different guys stepping in but those guys put up some really nice numbers."

The opening set was tied at 13 until Lewis grabbed a 19-15 lead with Karbiener and junior Matt Gallik (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) combining on a block for point 19. Quincy cut the lead in half at 21-19 but their run was kept at a minimum thanks to a Gallik kill for Lewis' 22nd point.

Lewis scored consecutive points on eight occasions in the second set to easily take the frame.

The Flyers held leads of 4-0, 14-7 and 19-10 on their way to a 25-16 third set victory.

Freshman setter BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) averaged exactly 12 assists per set with 36 assists.

"We talked about being better than we were on Saturday and I think the guys responded," Friend said.
