RENSSELAER, Ind. - Lewis women's hoops dropped a 75-66 decision at Saint Joseph's on Sunday afternoon. For a second consecutive game the Flyers rallied from a double-digit second half deficit to tie the game but were never able to take the lead in the final frame.

Lewis led by as many as five points in the initial minutes of the contest. The Flyers lead was one point midway through the first half when the Pumas closed the half on a 22-9 run to hold a 39-27 lead at the break.

Much like two days ago at UW-Parkside, the Flyers started the second half on fire by scoring the half's first 10 points. Lewis tied the game at 43 on a jumper by sophomore Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) at the 14:38 mark. St. Joseph's responded by making three 3-pointers and a traditional 3-point play over the next five minutes. Lewis had five points of their own in the stretch, but the run gave Saint Joseph's a seven point lead which they would hold the rest of the way.

The Pumas made 10-of-15 3-pointers in the game. They also were a perfect 11-of-11 from the line.

"There were times we defended the arc well today, and then there was times we had lapses," head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "Saint Joseph's took advantage of those lapses."

The frustrating thing is there are teams this time of the year preparing to make a run that aren't having the lapses and breakdowns we are."

Senior Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) recorded her Great Lakes Valley Conference high seventh double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds. She also added two blocks and two assists. Turpel needs one more block to tie Sue Olendorf (1984-87) for second in Lewis history with 114 bocks.

Senior Kady Currin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) totaled seven assists and three points. Currin moved into ninth all-time in assists at Lewis by bringing her career total to 371.

Murdock finished with 13 points, three assists, two steals and a block. Senior Kelly Monaco (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) added 11 points off the bench. Sophomore Sam Rinehart (Marion, Iowa/Marion) provided nine points and nine rebounds.

Despite the loss, Lewis clinches a GLVC Tournament berth thanks to a loss by UIS. The loss is Lewis' first in a day game this season after winning their first six.

The Flyers (10-12, 6-8 GLVC) won't have to wait long to get another shot at the Pumas (9-13, 6-7 GLVC) as the Flyers' next game is on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena against Saint Joseph's.
