HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Mary Moskal registered a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, but the Flyers (10-6, 6-2 GLVC) fell to Northern Kentucky (13-3, 7-2 GLVC), 62-51 in GLVC action Thursday night.
Moskal, who posted her third double-double of the season, was 3-of-12 from the field but went 8-of-11 at the free-throw line. Darcee Schmidt led the Flyers with a game-high 19 points, scoring 13 in the second half.
The Flyers and Norse battled back-and-forth in the opening minutes of the game, tying the score five times and exchanging the lead on three occasions. A Cassie Brannen layup at the 13:16 mark of the first half sparked the Norse to a 25-10 run over the next 11 minutes, resulting in a 15-point advantage, the biggest lead of the game. The Norse maintained a 12-point lead at halftime.
Lewis rallied after the break, out-scoring the Norse 26-25 in the half and closing to within four points with 1:52 to play in regulation, but they wouldn't get any closer. The Norse made 7-of-8 foul shots down the stretch to secure the 11-point win.
Karmen Graham and Angela Healy led the Norse with 12 points each.
Lewis shot 42.9 percent from the field and made 11-of-17 free throws. Northern Kentucky was 46.9 percent from the floor and made 19-of-26 free throws, including 15-of-20 in the second half. The Norse grabbed 37 rebounds to the Flyers' 30 boards.
The Flyers look to get back in the win column on Saturday when they head to Louisville to face Bellarmine at 1 pm.
