MIDLAND, Mich. - The Lewis women's soccer team opened the 2010 season with a 3-0 defeat at Northwood on Thursday afternoon.
The Flyers (0-1) and Timberwolves (1-0) were scoreless late in the first half when Northwood got on the board with 1:45 remaining. Alyssa Whims had the tally, scoring from 18 yards out. Northwood made it a 2-0 game 1:58 into the second half thanks to a Chelsea Kasperski goal. Northwood finished the scoring on a Heather Rhodes goal at 55:29. Amanda Watson assisted on all three goals.
Junior Allison Schieffer (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) had two shots for the Flyers, including one on goal. Lewis goaltender Megan George (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) made six saves.
Lewis opens conference play on Monday with a home match against Drury at noon.
