ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis women's soccer team will have to wait until Saturday to score the first goal at the new Multi-Purpose Athletic Complex after dropping the season opener to Saginaw Valley State 2-0 on Thursday afternoon.

Both teams recorded seven shots in the contest; however Saginaw Valley was able to convert two of the shots into goals.

The Cardinals' first tally came 1:20 into the game. Cara Cirovski jumped on a rebound to score the goal. Samantha Echols and Charley Porter recorded assists on the goal. The goal was set up by a corner kick.

Saginaw Valley State scored their second goal at the 50:24 mark. Kelsey Burt found her teammate Lindsey Arnett on the right side of the box. Arnett proceeded to knock it in the net.

Junior Fran Abate (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) had four shots for the Flyers.

“If we go into a performance and don't have that sharpness (seen in the preseason) we're going to have results like this,” head coach Chris Koenig said. “If we go out and do what we're capable of doing (we'll) continue to progress and get better. But we have to do it very quickly now.”

Saginaw Valley improves to 1-0 while the Flyers fall to 0-1. Lewis returns to the brand new Multi-Purpose Athletic Complex on Saturday for their final non-conference game of the season. First kick against Northwood will be 1 p.m.
