SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Lewis women's soccer and UIS played to a scoreless tie after two overtimes on Friday evening in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest.

“We weren't sharp enough around the goal,” head coach Chris Koenig said. “We had a few chances which we could have made more dangerous but didn't.”

UIS held a 7-5 edge in shots. Only one of UIS' shot was on goal. Sophomore Arianna Nie (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) made the save to pick up the shutout.

The match had 45 fouls and six cards. Junior Fran Abate (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) was given a red card in the final minute of regulation, meaning the Flyers played both overtime periods down a player. The red card disqualifies Abate for Sunday's game against No. 6 Quincy.

“It was difficult to find a flow with so many stoppages in play,” Koenig said. “That is for both sides; it was tough to find a rhythm.”

UIS is now 2-1-1 and 1-1-1 in GLVC play.

The tie moves Lewis to 2-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the GLVC. It is the Flyers' best start after three games in GLVC play since 1997. Lewis, Quincy and Bellarmine are the only schools undefeated in GLVC play. The Flyers travel to No. 6 Quincy on Sunday afternoon for a noon start.
