Quincy, Ill. -
The Quincy University men's soccer team began Sunday's Great Lakes Valley Conference match against Lewis University with a bang, and ended it with an even bigger bang, as the Hawks scored a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes and in the final 10 minutes on their way to the 4-1 win over the Flyers at North Campus Field.

Quincy senior Grant Ellison posted a pair of scores and an assist for the Hawks, while freshman Jordan Roberts pitched in a goal and an assist in the win. Quincy junior forward Jeff Vaninger added the other score for the Hawks.

With the win, Quincy improves to 4-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in GLVC action, while the Flyers are now 2-4 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

Lewis junior midfielder Robert McGowan (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) posted the Flyers lone goal, assisted by sophomore Cristhian Ramirez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling/Emerald Coast United Academy) at the 22:40 mark.

Lewis and Quincy each had 16 shots on the afternoon, with the Hawks putting eight on frame and the Flyers with seven.

"I actually thought it was a pretty evenly matched game, aside from the score," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "We had our opportunities to score in the final third, but we weren't able to take advantage of them, and Quincy did.

"But would have, could have, should have," Fiffles continued. "We're going to have to get back to working hard, break the tape down and continue to get better for our next game against Maryville."

The Flyers return to action on Friday (Sept. 23) for the first night game at the Lewis University Multi-Purpose Athletics Complex (MAC) against Maryville. Action is set to begin at 8 PM.
