1-0 Loss At No. 6 Quincy Is Lewis Women’s Soccer’s First GLVC Setback

QUINCY, Ill. – No. 6 Quincy women's soccer scored one goal but it ended up being the difference in the Hawks' 1-0 victory over Lewis on Sunday afternoon.

The only goal of the game came at 33:26 when Quincy's Brittany Casey took advantage of a misplayed pass back to Lewis sophomore goalkeeper Arianna Nie (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East).

“I loved the way we came out,” head coach Chris Koenig said. “We played really good soccer for the first 30 minutes and then after one mistake we struggled to respond and get back in that rhythm.”

Nie would finish with finish with six saves, three in each half.

The Hawks held an 11-6 edge in shots and 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Freshman Susan Thomas (Algonquin, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) (Algonquin, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) had two shots for Lewis.

Quincy improves to 6-0 and 4-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Flyers fall to 2-2-1 (2-1-1 GLVC).

The Flyers' next contest is at home against Maryville on Friday. Start time is at 5 p.m. It will be the first evening home women's soccer game in Lewis history.
