Colorado Christian’s 21 Errors Helps No. 15 Lewis Women’s Volleyball To Sweep

Flyers hold Cougars to just eight points in set two

TAMPA, Fla. – Thanks to 21 Colorado Christian hitting errors, No. 15 Lewis women's volleyball swept the Cougars 3-0 (25-20, 25-8, 25-22) on Friday afternoon on the campus of the University of Tampa.

The last time Lewis held an opponent to eight points or fewer in a 25-point set was Oct. 31, 2008 against Saint Joseph's when Lewis also limited the Pumas to eight points. Lewis hit at a .400 clip in the set while limiting Colorado Christian to a sub zero -.115 percentage. Lewis had two five point runs and a seven point run in the frame.

The Cougars led the third set 20-19 when the Flyers scored four straight to put the set away. Freshman Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) had back-to-back kills and assisted on a third kill in the run. She also had a kill for Lewis' 25th point.

Offensively the Flyers were led by junior Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic)' (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) 14 kills on 29 attempts for a .414 percentage. She helped Lewis hit .337 as a team. The Flyers were also dangerous from the endline, recording 10 service aces to just eight errors. Senior Kelly McConkey (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) had a career-high four aces. Junior Jen Krumwiede (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial/IPFW) added three.

Lewis improves to 2-0 while Colorado Christian is 1-1. The Flyers face No. 4 Tampa later tonight at 7 p.m. CT.
