Lewis Women's Soccer Earns 2-1 Victory Over Maryville

Flyers play first ever home game under the lights

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.
- The Lewis women's soccer team claimed a 2-1 victory over visiting Maryville on Friday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup in the first ever night game in Lewis history at the new Multi-Puropse Athletic Complex.

The Flyers added their first tally in the 36th minute on a Sam Agins (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) goal off of a rebound from a corner kick from junior Fran Abate (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) that hit the far post. At the end of the first half, Lewis held a 10-0 advantage in shots.

Abate added a goal of her own off of a penalty kick at 55:23 for her first goal of the season.

The Saints posted their lone goal at 69:12 by Sam Poteet off of a free kick. For the match, the Flyers held a 15-6 advantage in shots.

With the win, Lewis improves to 3-2-1 (3-1-1 GLVC) while the Saints drop to 0-7-1 (0-5 GLVC). The Flyers are back in action on Sunday as they host UMSL for a noon start.
