Lewis Men's Hoops Meets No. 21 Indianapolis On Thursday Night

Flyers take on third-straight ranked opponent; Tip-off set for 7:45 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena.

The schedule does not get any easier for the Lewis University men's basketball team, as the Flyers (11-6, 3-6 GLVC) welcome No. 21 Indianapolis (14-3, 7-2 GLVC) to Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (Jan. 26) night. Tip-off is set for 7:45 p.m. (CST).
   Thursday's contest will be broadcast live on both WJOL (1340 AM) with Mark Vasko on the call and WLRA (88.1 FM) with Ryan Tadych and Jesse Hardacre providing the detailed analysis. Live stats, audio and video streaming can be found at www.LewisFlyers.com.

ALL TIME SERIES - Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, the Flyers hold a 37-27 advantage over Indianapolis in their all-time series.  

LAST TIME WE MET - Lewis senior guard #Dennis Thomas, Jr.# tied a career-high with 31 points on 10-for-19 shooting to lift the visiting Flyers to the 69-67 win over the host Greyhounds in a GLVC First Round showdown on February 26, 2011.

LAST TIME OUT - The three-ball proved to be the difference against No. 9 Northern Kentucky on Saturday (Jan. 21), as the host Norse converted 15 trifectas on their way to the 77-66 win over Lewis.

SEASON ENDERS - Lewis has eliminated Indianapolis from the GLVC Men's Basketball Tournament in each of the last two seasons. UIndy held double-digit, second-half leads in each of those contests.

RANKED, SCHMANKED - The last time Lewis defeated a ranked opponent came last season, as the Flyers upset the No. 24 Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers, 86-81, on January 29, 2011.

TOUGH SLEDDING - Lewis' six losses this season have come against teams that are a combined 83-18 (.822) for the 2011-12 campaign.

FAB FRESH - Together, freshmen Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) (11.8 ppg.) and Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) (8.1 ppg) are averaging 19.9 points-per-game for the Flyers.  

IN IT UNTIL THE END - The score was either tied or Lewis held a lead with under one minute left in three of the Flyers' six losses this season.

HONORING HIS BROTHER - Junior guard David Bryant (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) wears the number 12 in honor of his late brother Kevin who played for Trost at Illinois Wesleyan from 2004-06.  

HE'S NO SAMSON - Since cutting his trademark braids, senior forward Lonnie Lawrence (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) is averaging 8.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 steals-per-game in eight contests. Prior to that, Lawrence averaged 2.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals-per-game in nine contests.

50/50 - Lewis is 6-0 this year when they have a field goal percentage of 50.0% or better. Since the 2006-07 campaign, the Flyers have a record of 52-10 (.839) when they shoot over 50.0%.

NOT MY BROTHER - Senior forward Justin Jarosz (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) and freshman guard Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) are not related.

CLEANING UP THE GLASS - Lewis is tops among GLVC freshmen with 5.4 rebounds-per-game.

POUNDING THE GLASS - Lewis is 14-3 (.824) when senior forward Matt Toth (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) leads the team in rebounding during his career.

PLAYING CLEAN - As of January 22nd, Lewis is ranked fifth in the nation, averaging 14.6 fouls-per-game.

GETTING TO THE LINE - Lewis has made more free throws (221) than their opponents have attempted (219).

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - Lewis is 22-8 (.733) since 2006-07 when they knock down at least 50.0% of their three-point attempts (min. 5 made).

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN (PART DEUX) - Jackson has converted 48.5% (16-for-33) of his three-point field goal attempts this year. That currently puts him fourth in Lewis school-history for three-point field goal percentage for a single-season (min. 15 made).

DEFENSIVE CLAMPS - Lewis has held nine opponents this season to under 60 points, which is the most by a Flyer squad since the 2001-02 season when they did it 11 times.

CLOSE CALLS - During Scott Trost's career at Lewis, the Flyers are 26-25 (.510) in games decided by five points or less, which accounts for 31.5% of the 162 games he has coached in.

250 CLUB - Trost's next win as the Flyers' skipper will mark the 250th career victory in his 15-year head coaching career.
