McLachlan Goal Keys Lewis Men's Soccer To 1-0 Win Over Saint Joseph's On Senior Night

For the fifth time this season, the Lewis University men's soccer team earned a 1-0 win, as freshman John McLachlan (Berwyn, Ill./Nazareth Academy) (Berwyn, Ill./Nazareth Academy) scored his first collegiate goal to lift the Flyers to the Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Saint Joseph's for 'Senior Night' at Lewis Stadium on Friday (Oct. 19) night.

McLachlan scored with 4:42 left in the first half, as he took a feed from fellow freshman Lenin Roa-Tapia (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) from the 20-yard line and beat Puma goalkeeper Steve Quella for the score.

With the victory, Lewis improves to 7-8 overall and 7-6 in GLVC action, while the Pumas fall to 4-11 on the campaign and 3-10 in conference play.

It was a good win," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "We started six freshmen tonight and they all gave us good performances, and that's what we needed to do tonight to get a win for our seniors."

Lewis senior goalkeeper Sebastian Kieruzal (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) made four stops between the pipes to earn his first shutout of the season. Quella made six saves on the evening.

The Flyers outshot Saint Joe's, 17-11, with seven shots on goal to the Pumas' four.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Oct. 21), as they head to Indiana to square off with Indianapolis for a 2:30 PM (ET) first kick.
