St. Louis, Mo. -
The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team converted a first half pentalty kick to defeat Lewis Univeristy, 1-0, on Saturday (Oct. 6).

Lewis falls to 7-4 on the season and 5-4 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, while UMSL improves to 3-6-1 on the season, 3-5 in the GLVC.

UMSL's Brittany Harbaugh shot the penalty kick past Lewis goalkeeper Mara Bennett (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) in the 29th minute.

"We didn't make chances in the final third," Lewis head women's soccer coach Chris Koenig said. "We ended up having to chase the after the pentalty kick."

The Flyers outshot the Tritons, 8-7, including 4-2 in shots on goal, while the Tritons were awarded more corners, 7-2. Fran Abate (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett), Hillary Cooper (Batavia, Ill./Batavia), Maggie Moran (Arlignton Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) and Susan Thomas (Algonquin, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) each had a shot on goal for the Flyers.

"We have a quick turnaround, playing back-to-back games," Koenig said. "We had players come in and contribute today.

"We will need that in the next game against Maryville."

Lewis is back in action at Maryville on Sunday (Oct. 7), with kickoff at 12 PM.
