Lewis Women's Basketball Look To Extend Win Streak At Wayne State on Saturday

The Flyers are 2-0 for the first time since the 2006-07 season.

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team, starting the season 2-0 for the first time since the 2006-07 campaign, travel to Detroit, Mich., to take on Wayne State in a regional match-up on Saturday (Nov. 17) at 1 PM ET

LAST TIME WE MET - Lewis defeated Wayne State 77-64 on Nov. 19, 2010, at Neil Carey Arena. Jenny Turpel led the Flyers with 20 points but the Lewis reserves scored 40 points to allow the starters to rest.

SERIES MATCH-UP - Lewis leads the series match up 5-1.

REINHART NAMED GLVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Sophomore Jess Reinhart was named GLVC Women's Basketball Player of the Week to open the season after she kicked off last weekend with a double-double (22 pts-12 reb.) over SVSU and led the Flyers with 25 points and eight rebounds over Northwood. She also went 16-for-18 (.889) from the free throw line. 

GLVC/GLIAC CHALLENGE - Lewis defeated Saginaw Valley State (70-60) and Northwood (91-77) as part of the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge in Saginaw, Mich., to open the 2012-13 season.  

HOW 2011-12 SEASON ENDED - The Flyers season ended in the second-round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament when they fell to top seeded Quincy, 86-72 in Springfield, Ill. 

BACK FOR MORE - Lewis returns leading scorers in Reinhart (11.6 ppg) and senior Labrenthia Murdock (9.7 ppg). The Flyers lost sophomore guard Jamie Johnson for the season with a knee injury early in the fall. Seniors Hannah Koeneman and Sam Rinehart and junior Alexus Grayer round out the returning upperclassmen.

NEWCOMERS - Lewis has 12 underclassmen to start the season, adding five fresh faces to seven sophmores that saw a lot of playing time in 2011-12 season. Guard Alyssa Dengler joins forwards Alex PooleMariyah HenleySophie Lichte and Ali Walker for the 2012-13 freshman class.

CASH FOR 3s - The Lewis women's basketball program fundraiser “Cash for 3s” begins this weekend. For every made three-pointer throughout the season, the team is looking for fans to pledge $1. Fans can contact Asst. Coach Kerrie James for more information at jameskn@lewisu.edu.

NEXT UP FOR THE FLYERS - The Flyers open their home schedule on Saturday (Nov. 24) when they take on Central Missouri at Neil Carey Arena. Tip-off is set for 3 PM.
