Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team brings their 3-0 record to Neil Carey Arena to open the home portion of the season on Saturday (Nov. 24) when the Flyers host Central Missouri at 3 PM. The last time the Flyers started the season 3-0 was in 2006-07.
LAST TIME WE MET - Then ranked No. 22 Central Missouri defeated Lewis 94-59 on Dec. 16, 2011 in Warrensburg, Mo. UCM's Shaquanda Wiggins led all scorers with 19 points. Lewis'
Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) led the Flyers with 15 points. UCM holds a 1-0 series.
FLYERS DEFEAT WAYNE STATE WARRIERS - Senior
Labrenthia Murdock led the Flyers with 17 points, going 7-for-8 in shooting from the field, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arch. Lewis was able to withstand Wayne State's late surge to win 75-71 in WSU's home and season opener on Saturday (Nov. 17).
REINHART NAMED GLVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Sophomore
Jess Reinhart was named GLVC Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Nov. 12 to open the season after she opened the season with a double-double (22 pts-12 reb.) over SVSU and led the Flyers with 25 points adn eight rebounds over Northwood. She also went 16-for-18 (.889) from the free throw line.
GLVC/GLIAC CHALLENGE - Lewis defeated Saginaw Valley State (70-60) and Northwood (91-77) as part of the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge in Saginaw, Mich. to open the 2012-13 season on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11. Reinhart was named GLVC Player of the Week for her strong stats in the games.
BACK FOR MORE - Lewis returns leading scorers in Reinhart (11.6 ppg) and Murdock (9.7 ppg). The Flyers lost sophomore guard
Jamie Johnson for the season with a knee injury early in the fall. Seniors
Hannah Koeneman and
Sam Rinehart and junior
Alexus Grayer round out the returners.
NEWCOMERS - Lewis has 12 underclassmen to start the season, adding five fresh faces to seven sophomores that saw a lot of playing time in 2011-12 season. Guard
