Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball team opens the 2012-13 campaign this weekend, as the Flyers head to Saginaw, Mich., to take on Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Nov. 10) and Northwood on Sunday (Nov. 11) as part of the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge hosted by Saginaw Valley State.
GLVC/GLIAC Challenge - Great Lakes Valley Conference member Saint Joseph's joins Lewis in battling against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference members Saginaw Valley State and Northwood over two days.
EXHIBITION VS SIUE - The Flyers held a halftime lead, 33-24, over SIUE until deep into the second half, reaching an 11-point lead at its peak, before falling 65-56.
Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) lead the Flyers with 13 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
LAST TIME WE MET - Lewis fell to SVSU 75-50 match-up in Saginaw, Mich. Lewis' Jenny Turpel lead the Flyers with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
SERIES MATCH-UP - SVSU and Lewis are knotted up at 3-3, with SVSU taking the most recent match up in the 2007-08 season by one point. This will be the first-ever match up between Lewis and Northwood.
HOW 2011-12 SEASON ENDED - The Flyers season ended in the second-round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament when they fell to top seeded Quincy, 86-72 in Springfield, Ill.

Jess Reinhart (11.6 ppg) and senior
Labrenthia Murdock (9.7 ppg). The Flyers lost sophomore guard
Jamie Johnson for the season with a knee injury early in the fall. Seniors

Amy Mlynarski round out the returning upperclassmen.
NEWCOMERS - Lewis has 11 underclassmen to start the season, adding five fresh faces to six sophmores that saw a lot of playing time in 2011-12 season. Guard Alyssa Dengler joins forwards Alex Poole, Mariyah Henley, Sophie Lichte and Ali Walker for the 2012-13 freshmen class.
