Liberty, Mo. -
The wave of momentum that the Lewis University men's soccer team was riding after opening Great Lakes Valley Conference play with two victories came to a halt on Friday (Sept. 14) night, as the Flyers dropped a 1-0 conference decision at William Jewell.

William Jewell's Chris Binns scored the lone goal in the seventh minute as he drove a direct kick past Lewis goalkeeper Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) (Mokena, Ill./Providence) at the 6:06 mark.

"We played uninspiring soccer tonight," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "We have to come out and battle every day and we didn't do that tonight.

"We can't just show up."

With the win, William Jewell improves to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Flyers drop to 2-3 on the campaign and 2-1 in GLVC action.

Lewis junior forward Cristhian Ramirez (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling/Emerald Coast United) managed the Flyers' only two shots on goal.

Pickett made three saves on the evening, while his counterpart Joe Keeven stopped both of Ramirez's blasts.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 16), as they head to Kansas City, Mo., to face Rockhurst for a 2:30 PM first kick.
