Kansas City, Mo. -
With all signs pointing to a 1-all tie, Rockhurst forward Nick McDonald put an end to that notion, as he scored the golden goal in the 109th minute to propel the No. 10 Hawks to the come-from-behind, 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference double overtime victory over the Lewis University men's soccer team on Sunday (Sept. 16) afternoon at Bourke Field.

McDonald was on the receiving end of a feed from Oussie Gueye and delivered the game-winner past Lewis goalkeeper Alec Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence ) (Mokena, Ill./Providence) at the 108:28 mark. McDonald also assisted on John Merlo's game-tying goal at the 82:45 mark of regulation.

"There's not much to say when you lose a late lead in regulation and give up the game-winner with one minute left in the second overtime," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "You can't do that if you want to beat the No. 1 team in the region on the road."

With the win, Rockhurst improves to 5-0-1 and 4-0 in conference action, while the visiting Flyers drop to 2-4 on the campaign and 2-2 in GLVC play.

Lewis freshman midfielder Luke Comerouski (Itasca, Ill./Christian Liberty Academy) (Itasca, Ill./Christian Liberty Academy) put the Flyers on the board first in the 72nd minute, as he converted a header from five yards out past Rockhurst's All-America goalkeeper Ryan Bass. Flyer senior Cristian Chavez (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) assisted on the play.

Bass made three saves on the afternoon, while Pickett turned away five Rockhurst shots on goal. Rockhurst uncorked 18 shots to Lewis' eight on the afternoon and held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Lewis returns to action on Friday (Sept. 21), as the Flyers head to Owensboro, Ky., to square off with Kentucky Wesleyan for a 12 PM first kick.
