Louisville, Ky. – The Lewis University women's basketball team suffered their second Great Lakes Valley Conference loss of the season at the hands of Bellarmine, 74-70, on Saturday (Jan. 19) at Knights Hall.
The Flyers fall to 11-3 on the season and 4-2 in the GLVC while the Knights improve to 13-4 on the year and 3-3 in conference action.

Lisa Carlsen said. “I thought we played really hard in the second half.
“We needed to come up with a few more loose balls but I have to give Bellarmine credit, they played and shot the ball well today.”
In the first half, the Flyers were unable to get out to their fast-paced offense. The squads played each other tough but Bellarmine was able to build an 11-point lead at the 3:10 mark, 37-26. The Flyers were able to cut the Knights lead to nine to head into the locker room, 42-33, at the half.
Sophomore
Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) led the Flyers in the period with seven points and three assists. Forwards
Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) and Mariyah Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles Niles) both chipped in six points with Reinhart pulling down seven rebounds.
The Flyers started the second period on a 14-4 run to take the lead, 47-46, at the 15:06 mark on a
Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) fast break layup.
Sam Rinehart (Marion, Iowa/Marion) (Marion, Iowa/Marion) and Nellen each put in six points during the run.
The Knights were able to regain an eight-point lead at 10:53 in the period, 59-51. Lewis buckled down to get back within one, 61-60, at the 8:00 minute mark on a Rinehart free throw.
The squads battled the next five minutes but Bellarmine was able to hold on to a four point lead until Itschner made a layup at 2:49 to go up 67-66. Reinhart made a jumper in the paint to tie the game at 69-all but the Knights held the Flyers to only one free throw in the final seconds to win 74-70.
Rinehart finished the game with 19 points and five rebounds while Nellen scored 13 points. Reinhart added 13 rebounds and nine points in the contest.
Therese Montano led Bellarmine with 20 points and four steals while Morgan Clemons pulled down 11 boards.
Lewis stays on the road for a Monday (Jan. 21) GLVC match-up at UW-Parkside in Kenosha, Wis. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.
