Lewis Women’s Soccer Battles Rockhurst To 0-0 Tie In Double Overtime

The Flyers took a season-high 26 shots with 12 on goal.

Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University women's soccer team took a season-high 26 shots but couldn't find the back of the net on Friday (Oct. 18), culminating in a 0-0 tie in double overtime with Rockhurst at Lewis Stadium.
 
The Flyers fall to 7-4-2 on the year and 5-4-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The Hawks move to 8-3-3 on the season and 6-2-3 in league play.
 
"Sometimes soccer isn't a fair sport," Lewis head women's soccer coach Chris Koenig said. "We put together a pretty complete game today, we just didn't get the result we wanted."
 
Lewis' biggest chance to score came in 63rd minute when Rockhurst' goalkeeper Ali Wallner foulled sophomore forward Jessica Chavez (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora), and was awarded a penalty kick. Chavez took the kick, but Wallner wrapped up the save.

Warner had 10 saves while Lewis senior goalkeeper Arianna Nie (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) corralled two shots in 110 minute of action for her first shutout of the season.
 
The Flyers had 12 shots on goal while holding the Hawks to 12 shots with only two on goal.
 
Lewis returns to Lewis Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 20) when they take on William Jewell at 12 PM.
