Somers, Wis. – Lewis University redshirt junior outside hitter
Kim Vertin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) collected 19 kills and 15 digs for her third double-double of the season in the women's volleyball team's 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-15, 25-16) victory over UW-Parkside on Tuesday (Oct. 8) at DeSimone Gymnasium.
The Flyers improve to 7-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action and 11-4 on the season while the Rangers fall to 3-4 in league play and 9-7 for the year.

The Flyers' redshirt sophomore right side hitter
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) picked up 17 kills, eight digs and two block assists. Sophomore outside hitter
Lauren O'Brien (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) also collected 11 kills, eight digs and 1.5 blocks. Redshirt freshman libero
Nicole Yuede (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) tallied 17 digs while junior setter
Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) was credited with 47 assists, six digs and five kills.
In the first set, despite the Rangers taking an early lead, the Flyers were able to battle back. Three kills from Vertin, two putaways from Davito and one by middle hitter
Morgan Cebula (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point Area), plus two UWP errors, gave Lewis a 23-22 lead. The Rangers got a kill from Makenzie Fahnestock to tie the set at 23-all, but a UWP error combined with a kill from O'Brien, allowed the Flyers to steal the set, 25-23.
Again in the second set, Lewis fell behind UWP early. The Rangers held their biggest lead at 19-14 as the Flyers were only able to get within two points before dropping the set 25-23.
The Flyers had the momentum early in the third set, holding a four-point lead at 10-6 following a kill by Vertin. The squads exchanged two ties before Lewis was able to cruise to a 25-15 set victory. Davito picked up five kills and two block assists in the set.
The squads were knotted up five times before the Flyers were able to get a handle on the fourth set. Lewis used a six-point run to take a 17-12 lead on two kills by O'Brien, a putaway from Davito and three Ranger errors. After UWP got within four points at 19-15, Lewis rode Vertin's five kills, plus a putaway from freshman
Jenna Selby (Troy, Ohio/Troy), to take the set, 25-16, and the match.
The Rangers' offense was led by Fahnestock's 13 kills. UWP's Sarah Mlachnik picked up 15 digs, while Rebecca Rembke had 14 and Bridget Nickel dug 10 balls and had eight kills. Setter Lauren Hickson had 30 assists, seven digs and six kills.
The Flyers return to Neil Carey Arena to host Southern Indiana on Friday (Oct. 11) with first serve at 7 PM.
