DeKalb, Ill. – The Lewis University women's basketball team battled back from a 14-point deficit at halftime to get within one point with two minutes left in the contest against Northern Illinois, before falling 76-72 on Saturday (Nov. 2) at the Convocation Center.
"We played very well in the second half today," Lewis head women's basketball coach
Lisa Carlsen said. "Our goal is to get better each time out and I think we did that."
Four different Flyers scored in double figures in the exhibition contest. Sophomore forward
Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) led the Flyers with 22 points while junior guard
Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) had 16 points. Redshirt sophomore guard
Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) collected 11 points while redshirt senior forward
Lauren Mead (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) chipped in 10 points.
NIU had five players post double-figure point totals. Amanda Corral led the Huskies with 15 points while Alexis Lindstrom chipped in 14. Natecia Augusta tallied 13 points while Danny Pulliam and Ally Lehman both scored 10 points.
The Flyers wrap-up exhibition play on Wednesday (Nov. 6) when they take on Northwestern University at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Ill., with tip-off set for 5 PM.
