Lewis Women’s Basketball Falls To Northwestern, 98-57, In Final Exhibition Contest

Sophomore Mariyah Brawner-Henley scored 17 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for the Flyers.

Evanston, Ill. – Lewis University sophomore forward Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) closed out the women's basketball team's exhibition slate with a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds in the Flyers' 98-57 loss to Big Ten foe Northwestern University on Wednesday (Nov. 6) at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
 
"I thought we had a few players that were really scrappy at times tonight," Lewis head women's basketball coach Lisa Carlsen said. "In spurts, I was really proud of some of the things we did."
 
Lewis redshirt sophomore guard Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) tallied 14 points, five rebounds and four assists. Junior guard Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) scored 11 points while redshirt senior forward Lauren Mead (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) chipped in six points, five rebounds and one steal. Junior guard Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) scored five points, pulled down six rebounds and dished out four assists running the Flyers' offense.
 
Northwestern had five score double figures against the Flyers. Christen Inman's 21 points, four rebounds and three steals led the Wildcats' offense while Nia Coffey turned in 14 points and six boards. Maggie Lyon had 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists as Meghan McKeown went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc for 12 points. Lauren Douglas tallied 10 points and six rebounds. 
 
"We are really excited for the weekend and getting the regular season started." Carlsen said. 
 
The No. 18 Flyers kick off the 2013-14 regular season at Neil Carey Arena on Saturday (Nov. 9) with a 5:30 PM contest against Saginaw Valley State.
