No. 24 Lewis Women's Basketball Takes On Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday

Tip-off is set for 1 PM.

The Flyers will battle for first place in the GLVC East Division.

Romeoville, Ill. - First-place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division is on the line when the No. 24 Lewis University women's basketball team (16-4, 9-3 GLVC) hits the road to take on Kentucky Wesleyan (13-6, 9-3 GLVC) for the squads' second match-up of the season on Saturday (Feb. 9) in Owensboro, Ky. Tip-off at the Sportscenter is set for 1 PM.

LAST TIME OUT - Lewis was held to 25.7% (9-of-35) shooting from the field in the second half as Southern Indiana won 68-55 on Thursday (Feb. 7) at the PAC. Senior Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) led the Flyers with 13 points while freshman Mariyah Henley put in 11 points and 10 rebounds.  

REINHART NETS WEEKLY GLVC HONOR - Sophomore Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) earned her second GLVC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor on Monday (Feb. 4) after averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds on 15-for-28 (.536) shooting from the field and went 10-for-12 (.833) from the free throw line in the Flyers' two wins last week. Her first weekly honor came on Nov. 12.

ALL TIME SERIES - The Flyers lead 41-14.

LAST TIME WE MET - The Flyers defeated the Panthers 79-61 at Neil Carey Arena on Jan. 24. Reinhart led Lewis with 15 points while Grayer scored 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including three three-pointers in the contest. 

SWEEPING THE SEASON SERIES - The last time the Flyers swept the season series against the Panthers was in the 2008-09 season. Lewis won at KWC 68-57 (Feb. 5, 2009) and at home 75-69 in overtime (Feb. 21, 2009).  

SAME STARTIN' FIVE - The Flyers can boast that their starting five has remained the same throughout the season.

LEWIS RANKED NO. 24 IN USA TODAY DII POLL - The Flyers entered the USA TODAY Sports Division II Basketball Coaches Poll at No. 24, that was released on Tuesday (Feb. 5), after three straight weeks of receiving votes. The last time Lewis was nationally ranked was in the 2006-07 season.

NATIONAL RANKINGS - Lewis is the second-best team in three-point field goal defense, holding teams to 23.3% from beyond the arch, according the NCAA Statistical Rankings released on Fri. (Feb. 8). 

TURNIN' IT AROUND - As of Feb. 8, Lewis and East Central (Ada, Okla.) are the only two teams in Division II women's basketball that have had the greatest turn around from last season. Both teams have doubled their win total this year with 16. 

FLYERS STACKING UP AGAINST THE GLVC - Grayer is second in the conference with a 43.8% three-point field-goal percentage (39-of-89) while sophomore guard Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) is second in the GLVC with 4.9 assists per game. 

ALL-TIMER - Murdock has moved into to a 6th-place tie in school history with Erin Cox (2003-07) with 87 career blocks. Murdock's team-leading 25 blocks is third in the GLVC. 

NUMBERS VS. THE GLVC - The Flyers top the GLVC in three-point field-goal percentage (35.7%), scoring (73.2) and three-point field-goal defense (23.3%) and second in defensive rebounds (30.3 per-game average).

SOPHOMORE TOUCH - Reinhart is the first sophomore since the 2008-09 to lead the Flyers in scoring (14.4) and rebounds (7.5). In the 2008-09 season Jenny Turpel led the Flyers with 18.5 points and 6.9 rebounds-per-game.

UP NEXT - The Flyers are participating in the Play 4Kay pink games when they return to Neil Carey Arena to host Bellarmine (Feb. 14) and McKendree (Feb. 16). The games will help benefit the Kay Yow Foundation with the common goal of promoting breast cancer awareness and finding a cure.
