No. 21 Lewis Women's Basketball Takes On Missouri S&T On Friday In GLVC Quarterfinals

Tip-off is set for 6 PM in Evansville, Ind.

The Flyers have ended the Miners season in the GLVC Tournament three times.
Game Notes

Romeoville, Ill. - The top-seeded and No. 21 Lewis University women's basketball team (21-5) travels to Evansville, Ind., to take on Missouri S&T (16-11) in a quarterfinal match-up in the 2013 Deaconess Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament at the Ford Center on Friday, March 8 at 6 PM.

Friday's contest can also be heard on www.LewisFlyers.com and WJOL (1340 AM) with Mark Vasko providing the play-by-play action for the Lewis Sports Network. The game will also be broadcast on WLRA (88.1 FM) with Shane Gustafson on the call.

LAST TIME OUT - The Flyers secured the GLVC East Division title and the No. 1 seed in the GLVC post-season tournament with a 64-60 victory over UW-Parkside on Feb. 28. Sophomore Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) led the Flyers with 16 points and nine rebounds. 

ALL TIME SERIES - The Flyers hold a 8-3 lead.

LAST TIME WE MET - The Flyers' suffered their first GLVC loss to the Miners, 69-62, in Rolla, Mo., back on January 5th. Junior  Alexus Grayer (Washington, Ill./Washington) and senior Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) each posted 13 points in the defeat. 

SAME STARTIN' FIVE - The Flyers can boast that their starting five has remained the same throughout the season.

KNOCK OUT ROUND - The Flyers have ended the Miners' season at the GLVC tournament each of the past three seasons. 

-Feb. 26, 2012, Lewis won 74-71 in Rolla, Mo.
-Feb. 26, 2011, Lewis won 79-74 (OT) in Rolla, Mo.
-Feb. 27, 2010, Lewis won 69-62 in Evansville, Ind.

LEWIS RANKED USA TODAY DII POLL - The Flyers jumped back into the USA TODAY Sports Division II Basketball Coaches Poll at No. 21 in the March 5 edition. Lewis had appeared at No. 24 in the Feb. 5th poll.  

NATIONAL RANKINGS - Lewis leads the nation in three-point field goal defense, holding teams to 23.9% from beyond the arc, according the NCAA Statistical Rankings released on Monday (March 4). 

TO 20 WINS - The Flyers' Feb. 23rd, 68-64 win over Saint Joseph's marks the first time the Flyers have won 20 games during the Lisa Carlsen era and first time since the 2006-07 season.

TURNIN' IT AROUND - At the end of the regular season, Lewis has had the best turn-around in Division II women's basketball from last season. After only winning eight games last season, the Flyers have won 21 contests.

STACKING UP AGAINST THE GLVC - Sophomore Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) is third in the GLVC with 4.7 (121 total) assists per game while Grayer is leads the conference in three-point field goal percentage 41.1% (49-for-111). 

ALL-TIMER - Murdock became the Flyer's 19th member of the 1,000 Point Club, going over the plateau in the double overtime victory at Indianapolis on Jan. 13. She heads into Friday's game with 1,102 total points. Murdock has moved into to a 6th-place in school history with 93 career blocks. Jackie Wayne (1987-91) is No. 5 all-time with 97 career blocks.

NUMBERS VS. THE GLVC - The Flyers top the GLVC in scoring (72.0) and three-point field-goal defense (23.9%) defensive rebounds (29.9 per-game average) and second in blocked shots (4.3 per-game average, 112 total). 

SOPHOMORE TOUCH - Reinhart is the first sophomore since the 2008-09 season to lead the Flyers in scoring (14.8) and rebounds (7.3). In the 2008-09 campaign, Jenny Turpel led the Flyers with 18.5 points and 6.9 rebounds-per-game.

THE COMEBACK - The Flyers' 68-64 win at Saint Joseph's (Feb. 23) was the third time this season Lewis erased a 10-plus point deficit to win the game. Lewis erased deficits in wins over Bellarmine (77-65) on Feb. 14 and Indianapolis (78-75 2OT) on Jan. 31. 

GRAYER FROM BEYOND THE ARC - Grayer currently has the seventh best single-season three-point field-goal percentage in Lewis history, shooting 41.1% (49-of-111). She also currently is tied for third all-time in program history with a 40.1% three-point field-goal percentage (89-of-222). Amy Frey (1997-99) is also third with a 40.1% career three-point field-goal average (61-of-152). 

REGIONAL RANKINGS - Lewis stays in third out of 10 teams in the NCAA Midwest Region rankings that was released by the NCAA on Wednesday (March 6). The top eight teams will earn bids to the regional tournament.

AWARD SEASON - Lewis head women's basketball coach Lisa Carlsen was named the 2013 GLVC Chuck Mallander Coach of the Year on Tuesday (March 5). Carlsen is the fourth Flyers' coach to win the award and the first since Lynn Platt earned the honor in 2006-07. 

   Reinhart was named to the All-GLVC First Team while seniors Sam Rinehart (Marion, Iowa/Marion) and Murdock were named to the All-GLVC Second Team. Murdock was also named to the All-Defensive Team. 

CONNECTING THE WINS - Lewis is currently on their third streak of at least five wins this season. Lewis previously picked up five wins from December 1st to January 3rd and from January 21st to February 2nd. The Flyers head into the post-season on a five game winning streak. 

POST-SEASON SENIORS - In eight post-season games in her career, Murdock is averaging 8.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.25 assists-per-contest. Rinehart has appeared in five post-season games and is averaging 6.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists-per-game.
