Kirksville, Mo. – Lewis University sophomore forward Jessica Chavez (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) scored first for the Flyers in the 21st minute, but the women's soccer team was unable to break the 1-1 tie in the double overtime Great Lakes Valley Conference contest against Truman State on Friday (Sept. 20) at Truman Soccer Park.

Chavez took a shot from inside the 30-yard hash, which hit under the crossbar and got past the Truman State goalkeeper, Emily Bozdeck. Chavez leads the Flyers with five goals on the season.

The Flyers move to 4-0-1 on the year, and 2-0-1 in GLVC action while the Bulldogs sidestep to 3-1-2 on the campaign and 2-0-1 in league play.

"Today was an intense GLVC game for both teams," Lewis head women's soccer coach Chris Koenig said. "I am proud of the effort we had on the field with the tough pressure Truman State kept on us.

"Now we need to learn from today, refocus and get ready for Quincy on Sunday."

Just before halftime, Truman State's Hayley Bollwerk put a shot just out of reach of Lewis goalkeeper freshman Jennifer Meyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport). Meyer picked up a career-high seven saves in 110 minutes between the pipes.

The Flyers out shot the Bulldogs, 18-15, while Truman State earned more corners, 8-2. The Bulldogs' goalkeeper, Bozdeck, collected six saves in the contest.
