Quincy, Ill. – Despite a goal in the second minute by Lewis University sophomore
Lauren Grady (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs), the women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday (Sept. 22) at Quincy, 2-1.
Freshman forward
Meg Carmody (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) crossed a ball from the left end line to feed Grady for her second goal of the season.
Quincy scored the game winner on a penalty kick, executed by Jaclyn Mastroianni, in the 86
th minute.
The Flyers fall to 4-1-1 on the season, and 2-1-1 in GLVC play while Quincy improves to 5-0-1 on the year and 4-0 in league action.
"It is frustrating to end up with a loss after battling for 90 minutes," Lewis head women's soccer coach
Chris Koenig said. "We will work on being sharper this week and putting together a full game."
"I have to give Quincy credit," Koenig continued. "They are a well coached team and did a better job at possessing the ball today."
Quincy evened the match at 1-all in the 48
th minute when Taylor Wakeland crossed a pass to Ashley Burton for the goal.
Both squads took 11 shots in the contest. Lewis freshman goalkeeper
Jennifer Meyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) picked up two saves while Quincy's keeper, Jodi Chapie, corralled four shots.
The Flyers return to Lewis Stadium on Friday (Sept. 27) for a Homecoming match-up against Maryville. Kick-off is set for 5 PM.
