Springfield, Ill. – The No. 25 Lewis University women's basketball team collected their ninth-straight victory with an 80-68 win over Illinois Springfield on Saturday (Jan. 18) at The Recreation and Athletics Center.
The Flyers improve to 12-2 on the season and 6-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action while the Prairie Stars fall to 5-10 on the campaign and 1-6 in league play.
"I thought we did a nice job offensively getting the ball in the paint," Lewis head women's basketball coach
Lisa Carlsen said. "We also cut well, shared the ball and rebounded the ball really well today."
The Flyer offense was led by sophomore forward
Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North), who collected her 13
th double-double of the season with 23 points and 14 rebounds. She also had three steals, three assists and two blocks in the contest. Redshirt sophomore guard
Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) scored 14 points and dished out five assists while junior guard
Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) posted a career-high 10 assists for the Flyers.

Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) had 11 points, seven boards and three assists as sophomore guard
Alyssa Dengler (Chicago, Ill./Trinity) matched a career-high 10 points, and dished out three helpers for Lewis.
Lewis maintained control throughout the contest as the Flyers went 29-of-66 (43.9 %) from the field, including five three-pointers, while holding UIS to 20-of-58 from the field (34.5%). The Flyers out-rebounded the Prairie Stars, 43-35, as the Flyers kept pounding the ball down low, doubling up UIS' points in the paint, 28-14.
Lewis forced 15 UIS turnovers and then collected 22 points off the Prairie Stars' miscues. The Flyers dished out a season-high 24 assists, led by Nellen's 10 helpers.
The Prairie Stars were led by Megan Bergerud's 20 points while Alyssa Palmer chipped in 19 points, five assists and four rebounds.
The Flyers close out their five-game road-trip on Monday (Jan. 20) when they take on UW-Parkside at DeSimone Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.
