Somers, Wis. – The No. 25 Lewis University women's basketball team had their nine-game winning streak snapped by Great Lakes Valley Conference rival University of Wisconsin-Parkside, falling 51-50 on Monday (Jan. 20) at DeSimone Gymnasium.
The Flyers move to 12-3 on the year and 6-1 in league play while the Rangers improve to 6-9 on the campaign and 2-5 against conference opponents.
"We allowed Parkside's physicality to make us a little tentative under the basket," Lewis head women's basketball coach
Lisa Carlsen said. "We just didn't score enough points to win the game and weren't that aggressive or assertive to the rim."

Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) led the Flyer offense with 15 points and nine rebounds as sophomore forward
Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds for her 14
th double-double of the season as well as three assists, one block and one steal.
Junior guard
Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) scored eight points, including two three-pointers, pulled down three rebounds and dished out two assists for the Flyers. Fellow guard redshirt sophomore
Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) dished out five assists, pulled down five rebounds, scored four points, blocked two shots and picked up two steals as she played seconds shy of a full 40 minutes on the court.
The Rangers out-rebounded the Flyers, 41-38, as well as held the Flyers to 5-of-6 from the free throw line while hitting 14-of-20 of their own attempts at the charity stripe. Lewis shot 34.4% (21-of-61) from the field while UWP only converted on 31.5% (17-of-54) of their shots.
After heading into the locker rooms tied at 25, the Flyers made a late push to overtake the Rangers in the second half, holding a brief lead at 48-49 when Reinhart hit a jumper at the 1:13 mark.
UWP answered with a jumper by Danielle Slivka to retake the lead 49-48 at the :39 mark, then added two free throws by Sarah Mlachnik to push their lead to three, 51-48, with nine seconds left.
Reinhart made a layup with five seconds left to put the Flyers within one at 51-50. After the Rangers missed a free throw with three seconds left, Nellen in-bounded the ball to redshirt senior
Lauren Mead (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) who got the ball to Reinhart for the last shot of the game. A block by UWP sealed the loss for the Flyers.
The Ranger offense was led by Slivka's 19 points and four rebounds as Mlachnik chipped in nine points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal.
The Flyers return to Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (Jan. 23) to host Southern Indiana, with tip-off set for 5:30 PM.
