Romeoville, Ill. – The No. 23 Lewis University women's basketball team hit a season-high 13 three-pointers as the Flyers defeated Southern Indiana, 95-85, on Thursday (Jan. 23) at Neil Carey Arena.
The Flyers, who held the lead for all but the first minute of the game, shot 51.6% (33-of-64) from the floor, including hitting a season-high 13-of-23 (56.5%) shots from beyond the arc. This marked the best long-range shooting a Flyer squad has had since the 2006-07 team made 15 three-pointers against UW-Parkside on Feb. 20, 2007.
The Flyers, who collected their eighth-straight home win, improve to 13-3 on the year and 7-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action while the Screaming Eagles fall to 11-5 on the campaign and 5-3 in league play.
The Lewis offense was led by redshirt sophomore guard
Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic), who scored a career-high 27 points, making a season-high five three-pointers, and had five assists. Sophomore forward

th double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds as junior guard
Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) picked up her first of the season, with 11 points and 10 assists.

Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) also chipped in 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists as classmate
Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) tallied 18 points, including three three-pointers, four assists, and three rebounds.
Lewis also tallied a season-high 26 assists, led by Nellen's 10 helpers. The Flyers won the battle on the boards, 35-28, picking up 20 second-chance points to USI's six.
"It was a great team effort tonight," Lewis head women's basketball coach
Lisa Carlsen said. "We shared the ball as a lot of people shot the ball well."
"We were able to knock down some threes," Carlsen continued, "Which hasn't been something that we haven't been consistent with this year."
Southern Indiana also shot over 50% from the floor, going 31-of-57 (54.4%), but only made five three-pointers.
The Screaming Eagle offense was led by Anna Hackert's 23 points and six rebounds, while Mary O'Keefe chipped in 22 points. Autumn Miller tallied 13 points, five rebounds and two assists as Stephanie Carpenter had 12 points, six rebounds and six assists for USI.
Lewis is back in action on Saturday (Jan. 25) at Neil Carey Arena when the Flyers host Bellarmine for a 1 PM contest.
