No. 20 Lewis Women's Basketball Heads To Saint Joseph's On Saturday

Romeoville, Ill. - With three-fourths of the 2013-14 season in the books, the No. 20 Lewis University women's basketball team (15-3, 9-1 GLVC) looks to extend their winning ways when they head to Rensselaer, Ind., to take on Saint Joseph's (Ind.) on Saturday (Feb. 1). Tip-off is set for 1 PM at Scharf Fieldhouse.

SERIES RECORD – The Flyers hold a 37-32 all-time series lead over Pumas. 

LAST TIME WE FACED OFF – Lewis, who swept the season series in 2012-13, picked up a 68-64 road victory over Saint Joseph's on Feb. 23, 2013, at Scharf Fieldhouse. Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) led the Flyers with 20 points while Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) collected a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. 

LAST TIME ON THE COURT – The Flyers captured the program's first triple overtime contest with an 111-105 win at No. 16 Indianapolis on Thursday (Jan. 30) at Nicoson Hall. It marked the second-straight overtime victory the Flyers have had over the Greyhounds (Jan 31, 2013; 78-75 2OT) at Nicoson Hall. Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) led the Flyers second-half come back with a career-high 29 points, hitting seven three-pointers. Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) had 23 points and18 rebounds while Reinhart chipped in 16 points and 10 boards.

FOUR IN DOUBLE-FIGURES - Lewis' Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame), Johnson, Brawer-Henley and Reinhart are averaging double-digits in points this season. This is the first time since the 1993-94 season that four Flyers have averaged double-figures in the scoring column, by Bonnie Richrath (16.9), Julie Giles (11.7), Brenda Wegrzyn (12.2) and LaRita Harrington (10.2).

MOVING UP THE POLL - Lewis moved up to No. 20 in the USA Today Sports Division II Coaches Poll released on Tuesday (Jan. 28). 

GOOD FROM LONG RANGE – The Flyers connected on 12 three-pointers at UIndy (Jan. 30), the most since Lewis hit 13 against USI on Jan. 23rd.

AMONG THE COUNTRY - Lewis tops the GLVC in rebounds, averaging 44.3 rebounds-per-game, and is second in blocked shots, swatting 5.2 shots-per-game. 

SOPHOMORE SHINING BRIGHT – Brawner-Henley is the first Flyer to average a double-double since Julie Fruendt completed the 1983-84 season averaging 18.9 points and 10.1 rebounds. 

FINDING WHO'S OPEN - The Flyers, who lead the GLVC and are 12th nationally in assists averaging 18.3 helpers-per-game, dished out season-high 26 assists at Indianapolis (Jan. 30). Lewis also collected 26 assists on Jan. 23rd against Southern Indiana at Neil Carey Arena.

BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER - Johnson, who has started in all 18 contests, leads the GLVC averaging 36.4 minutes-per-game. Johnson missed the entire 2012-13 campaign due to a knee injury. She is second in the GLVC and 11th nationally in free throw percentage, hitting 55-of-61 (90.2%) shots from the charity stripe for the Flyers.

FLYING TO THE TOP – Brawner-Henley leads the country with 17 double-doubles in 18 contests this season, while ranking second nationally in rebounds, averaging 12.9 boards-per-game. The forward is also second the GLVC in points (18.3 ppg.). 

SHARING THE ROCK – Junior guard Nikki Nellen (New Berlin, Wis./Pius XI) leads the conference and 15th nationally in assists, dishing out 5.3 assists-per-game while Johnson is fourth, averaging 4.3 helpers-per-game.

THREE FLYERS WITH 20-POINTS IN A GAME –  Itschner (22 pts.), Johnson (29 pts.) and Brawner-Henley (23 pts.) all posted 20 points in the Lewis win over UIndy (Jan. 30) marking the second time this season a trio of Flyers score at least 20 points. In the Flyers win over Quincy (Jan. 5), Itschner, Reinhart and Johnson all chipped in 20-point performances. 

DOUBLE-TROUBLE – For the second time this season, Brawner-Henley and Reinhart both collected double-doubles in the same game. In the Flyers victory over the Greyhounds (Jan. 30), Brawner-Henley posted 23 points and 18 rebounds while Reinhart chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds. On Dec. 7th, Brawner-Henley (31 pts., 17 rebs.) and Reinhart (30 pts., 13 rebs.) collected double-doubles against Purdue Calumet.
