ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – No. 3 Lewis women's basketball stayed undefeated by earning their first Great Lakes Valley Conference victory of the season on Thursday (Dec. 4) in a 76-61 win over UW-Parkside at Neil Carey Arena.

The Rangers opened the game with a 13-6 lead over the contest's first five minutes. The Flyers then went on an 18-0 run to take control of the game for good. It was the contest's one and only lead change. Junior Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) scored 16 of her season-high 28 points in the first half.

The Flyers removed all doubt by opening the second half on a 10-2 push. Lewis took a lead as large as 27 points in the second half.

"I told them at the first media (timeout) there is no reason to wait around to see what (Parkside is) going to do," Lewis head coach Lisa Carlsen said "Lets see what they are going to do when we play our game. I thought we did a better job later in the (first) half and especially in the second half."

Brawner-Henley grabbed 12 rebounds to go with her 28 points. Senior Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) added 18 points, two blocks and an assist. Junior Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) finished with 14 points. The trio helped Lewis shoot 48.4 percent (31-of-64) in the contest. The Lewis defense limited the Rangers to 33.8 percent (23-of-68) shooting.

Carlsen is now 8-0 in GLVC openers as Lewis' head coach. Lewis has now won 27 straight home games and 21 straight GLVC home games.

Lewis improves to 6-0 (1-0 GLVC). UW-Parkside falls to 5-2 (0-1 GLVC). Lewis starts a stretch of five consecutive non-conference games on Saturday (Dec. 6) at St. Francis. Tip in Joliet is set for 3 p.m.
