Rolla, Mo. – The No. 15 Lewis University women's basketball team took advantage of a Missouri S&T scoring drought to open the Great Lakes Valley Conference contest on Thursday (Feb. 13), and controlled the tempo to collect a 90-71 victory over the Lady Miners at Billy Key Court.
The Flyers, with their seventh-straight victory, improve to 19-3 on the season and 13-1 against GLVC opponents, while the Lady Miners drop to 8-14 on the year and 4-10 in the conference.
Lewis junior forward
Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) led the Flyers with 25 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the field and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe while pulling down seven rebounds.
Sophomore forward
Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) chipped in 20 points and nine rebounds, while junior guard
Kristin Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) tallied 18 points, including two three-pointers, and five rebounds for the Flyers.
Redshirt sophomore guard
Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) scored 17 points, dished out a team-leading five assists and collected four boards.
The Flyers held the lead from the tip, shooting 57.1% (32-of-56) from the field and making 23-of-30 (76.7%) shots from the free throw line. Lewis doubled up the Lady Miners on the boards, 44-22, while picking up 44 points from inside the paint.
Lewis held a game-high, 29-point lead at the 5:29 mark in the first half, up 40-11. Missouri S&T took advantage of the Flyers' easing up on defense to close out the half on a 17-9 run. The Lady Miners got within 49-28, finding a groove from beyond the arc with Senait McLeod hitting two of Missouri S&T's three three-pointers of the half. Toni Knar chipped in four points, while Elsie Greenwood made a three and a Jaaron Kassanavoid layup rounded out the run.
The Lady Miners carried their momentum into the second half, working hard for over 12 minutes to cut the Flyers lead to 10 points at 70-60 on a McLeod three-pointer at the 8:21 mark.
Lewis answered with a 16-6 run of their own, to push their lead up to 20 points, 86-66, with 2:14 left in the game on a free throw by forward
Alex Poole (Milwaukee, Wis./Menomonee Falls). Johnson led the way during the run with nine points, including a three-pointer, as Brawner-Henley chipped in four points and Reinhart sank two free throws.

Lisa Carlsen said. "We did a nice job on the glass, and were able to overcome some defensive lapses at the end of the first half and at the start of the second."
The Missouri S&T offense was led by McLeod's 18 points, with three three-pointers, while Karli Sample chipped in 14 points and four rebounds.
Lewis closes out the road trip on Saturday (Feb. 15) when the Flyers take on No. 9 Drury at the O'Reilly Family Event Center. Tip-off is set for 1 PM in Springfield, Mo.
