ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – No.  2 Lewis women's basketball entered Thursday's (Jan. 8) contest as one of six undefeated teams in the country. The Flyers stayed that way with a 78-59 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Missouri-St. Louis at Neil Carey Arena.

The win is Lewis' 14th straight, a new school record. The 2006-07 team held the previous record with 13 consecutive wins. Lewis improves to 4-0 in the GLVC as well as 14-0 overall. The victory is also Lewis' 30th straight at home. UMSL falls to 6-5 (2-1 GLVC).

Lewis led 15-14 with 10:24 left in the first half but outscored UMSL 21-13 the rest of the frame to grab a 36-27 lead at the break. UMSL quickly advanced within two points at 41-39 in the second half, but Lewis responded on a 12-0 run to all but put the game away. Bench points accounted for seven of the 12 points.

Senior Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) was one of five players in double-digits with a game-high 19 points. Junior Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) had her 11th double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

The Flyers received 25 points from their bench. Junior Alyssa Dengler (Chicago, Ill./Trinity) led the way with a career-high 13 points thanks to 3-of-4 shooting beyond the arc. Junior Alyssa Siwek (Palos Heights, Ill./Mother McAuley) tied a career high with seven points.

"Usually when we put Alyssa Dengler (Chicago, Ill./Trinity) on the floor it is because she is such a great defender and she really did that tonight," Lewis head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "But she shot the ball well too. She got a couple things in transition and that's just icing on the cake for us."

Lewis shot 48.4 percent (30-of-62) while limiting UMSL to 39.1 percent (25-of-64). The Flyers notched 24 assists on their 30 baskets with seven Flyers recording three or more assists.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 10) in a home contest against Maryville. Tip for the GLVC contest with the Saints is set for 1 p.m.
