PDF Box ScoreJOLIET, Ill. - No doubt about it, the Flyers are hot. Lewis women's volleyball cruised to their seventh straight victory with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-21) sweep at St. Francis (IL) on Wednesday (Sept. 16) evening.
Lewis won the first set thanks to a 7-0 run to grab a 23-9 lead. Senior
Cassidy Parsons (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) was serving for the run and added an ace to the effort.
The Flyers rallied from a slow 8-1 start to win the second set 25-23. Freshman
Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) had kills for points 24 and 25. 17 of Lewis' 25 points in set two came by way of a kill.
St. Francis grabbed a 19-18 lead in the third set before four straight Lewis points ended the Saints' hopes. Parsons had the kill on match point.
Senior
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) and sophomore
Maddie Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) each recorded nine kills in the match.
Lewis out-hit St. Francis .267 to .144. The Flyers notched 10 blocks while St. Francis failed to record one block.
The win extends Lewis' win-streak over St. Francis to 12.
Lewis improves to 8-1. Saint Francis falls to 4-9.
The Flyers enter conference play on Friday when Drury comes to Neil Carey Arena for a 7 p.m. first serve. Fans are encouraged to bring a canned food item to donate to the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
