Somers, Wis. -
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside shot 60.0% (15-for-25) from the field and only turned the ball over twice in the second half to surge past the Lewis University men's basketball team for the 82-70 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Flyers at DeSimone Gymnasium on Monday (Jan. 18) night.

"We didn't play well tonight in the second half, we missed too many shots and I thought we weren't aggressive enough," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "We need everyone to contribute and there's no margin for error here."

UW-Parkside reserves Jake Verhagen and Kyle Flanagan combined for 39 points off the bench for the Rangers. Verhagen posted a team-best 21 points, including five three-pointers, while Flanagan was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and 8-for-8 from the free throw line to finish with 18 points. UW-Parkside's bench outscored Lewis', 41-19.

The Rangers also received 17 points from senior guard Andy Mazurczak.

With the victory, UW-Parkside improves to 13-2 overall and 6-1 in GLVC action, while the Flyers fall to 12-5 on the campaign and 4-3 in conference play.

Lewis senior forward Kyle Nelson (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) and sophomore forward Max Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) combined for 45 points in the loss. Nelson (6 rebounds) collected 23 points on 7-for-11 shooting, while Strus added 22 points, including six rebounds and five assists.

The Flyers were also done in by 15 turnovers that led to 17 Ranger points, 11 of which came in the second half. UW-Parkside was a perfect 18-for-18 from the free throw line and made all 12 of their charity shots in the final stanza.

As a team, UW-Parkside shot 50.9% (28-for-55) from the field and 34.8% (8-for-23) from three-point range. Lewis knocked down 46.2% (24-for-52) of their shots and 30.8% (4-for-13) of their long-range attempts.
