SOMERS, Wis. – Senior Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) was one of three Flyers in double-digits on Saturday (Jan. 2) as No. 7 Lewis women's basketball won at UW-Parkside 67-63 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game.

Brawner-Henley poured in 30 points with 16 rebounds for her 59th career double-double. She made 12-of-16 shots from the floor.

"Mariyah's performance today may have been the best I have ever seen," Lewis head coach Kristen Gillespie said. "She scored every way possible."

Freshman Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) added 19 points. Redshirt freshman Kayla Brewer (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee School of Languages) totaled 10 points while adding six rebounds.

The Flyers held a 24-14 lead in the second quarter. Then the Rangers responded with an 11-0 run, fueled by three 3-pointers. The game went to the half tied at 31 thanks to a half court heave by Brawner-Henley at the buzzer. Her long distance trey gave her 18 points in the first 20 minutes.

Lewis seemed to have control of the game in the fourth, up 13 points with 5:57 remaining. This was before the Rangers scored six straight points to make it a game again. A 3-pointer by the Rangers' Tara Knapstein with 20 seconds remaining cut the margin to one possession at 66-63. On the other end, however, junior Alyssa Siwek (Palos Heights, Ill./Mother McAuley) made 1-of-2 free throws to put the game away.

"I am so proud of this team," Gillespie said. "We showed unbelievable heart and perseverance today. We were extremely short handed but everyone found a way to step up and help us get a huge road win against a good Parkside team."

Lewis shot 53.2 percent (25-of-47) while limiting the Rangers to 36.8 percent (25-of-68) shooting. UW-Parkside finished 12-of-33 from beyond the arc.

UW-Parkside falls to 7-4 (1-2 GLVC). Lewis improves to 12-1 (3-0 GLVC). The Flyers are back in action on Thursday (Jan. 7) in 5:30 p.m. start at Neil Carey Arena against No. 4 Drury.
