ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – No. 6 Lewis women's basketball clinched their fourth consecutive Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division Championship on Thursday (Feb. 18) evening with a 64-55 decision at Neil Carey Arena. The win was Lewis' 20th straight victory.

"This is a group that expects to win the division," Lewis head coach Kristen Gillespie said. "Living up to that expectation is much tougher than simply setting the goal in the preseason."

The Flyers led by as many as 25 in the first half and took a 38-18 lead into the break. But an ugly third quarter, which Lewis was out-scored 14-6 and didn't record their first points until 1:47 remained in the period, brought the Greyhounds back in the game. Freshman Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) had four fouls and sat for the majority of the run. The Greyhounds cut the Lewis lead to as little as three points in the fourth quarter, but it seemed each time the Greyhounds were within striking distance Kelliher delivered. She finished with six of her 16 points in the final 3:17 of the game.

"I was disappointed with the second half," Gillespie said. "I thought we were out-toughed."

The Flyers limited the GLVC's leading scorer, UIndy's Princess German, to 15 points on 4-of-16 shooting. She was 2-of-11 from beyond the arc. German didn't record her first field goal until the second half.

Four Flyers finished with double-digit points. Senior Mariyah Brawner-Henley (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) also had 16 points. Sophomore Tiana Karopulos (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) added a Lewis career-high 14 points with five rebounds and three assists and no turnovers. Freshman Kayla Brewer (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee School of Languages) dropped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

"Tiana was fantastic," Gillespie said. "Whatever we ask her to do, she embraces the role. Tonight was a night we needed her offense and energy in a big way."

The Flyers out-shot Indianapolis 44.7 percent to 32.7 percent. Lewis made 19-of-27 free throws. It was the most free throws Lewis has made in a game this year since connecting on 20 against Saint Francis on Dec. 9.

Indianapolis falls to 7-19 (5-11 GLVC). Lewis improves to 25-1 (16-0 GLVC). The Flyers host Saint Joseph's on Saturday (Feb. 20) in a 1 p.m. start. It will be Senior Day for the Flyers as Jessie Tennant (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs), Sophie Lichte (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg), Alyssa Dengler (Chicago, Ill./Trinity) and Brawner-Henley will be honored before the game.
