Springfield, Mo. - The Lewis University softball team ended its season on a high note, as the Flyers came away with their fourth consecutive Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader split against Drury University (L, 3-0; W, 7-5) at Thompson Field on Sunday (April 24) afternoon.
Lewis finishes 2016 with a record of 20-30 overall and 8-22 in GLVC action, while the host Panthers end year with a mark of 18-32 and 11-19 in conference play.

Drury senior pitcher Shelby Weissenbach tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout and recorded a pair of RBI doubles to lift the host Panthers to the 3-0 win over the Flyers in the opener.
Weissenbach went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while sophomore third baseman Kaelie Smith was 3-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored to top the Panthers offensively.
Lewis starting pitcher
Dara Sanders (Crestwood, Ill./Mother McAuley) took the loss for the Flyers, surrendering three runs and eight hits in six innings of work.

Nicole Kappelman (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) each recorded two-run singles in the first inning off of Drury starting pitcher Jessica Kjeldgaard.
Kappelman was 3-for-3 with two RBI and scored a run, while Jaworski was 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run.Â
Kjeldgaard scattered seven runs - two of which were earned - and 11 hits, while fanning four in a losing effort. Lewis starting pitcher
Paige Fossey (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) picked up the win for the Flyers, allowing three runs and six hits in five innings of action.

Ali Brems (Kenosha, Wis./Harborside) allowed two runs and three hits in two innings to earn her first save of the season. Brems (2-for-3, RBI) added an insurance run for herself in the seventh inning with a RBI single.

Jenna Cairo (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) went 2-for-4 at the dish with a RBI and a run scored.
