Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis University sophomore forward
Jessica Kelliher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) led four players in double-figures as the Flyer women's basketball team registered a 71-63 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Illinois Springfield at Neil Carey Arena on Saturday (Jan. 28).
Kelliher was 10-for-11 from the field and finished with a game-high 22 points and a team-high five rebounds.
Flyer redshirt senior
Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) had 16 points, followed by 12 points from freshman forward
Rachel Hinders (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston).
Lewis senior guard
Alyssa Siwek (Palos Heights, Ill./Mother McAuley) finished with 10 points on 3-for-3 shooting, including crucial two three-pointers in the decisive fourth quarter that saw the Flyers outscore UIS, 22-15.
With the win, Lewis improves to 16-5 overall and 8-3 in conference play, while the Prairie Stars drop to 8-11 on the campaign and 2-9 in GLVC action.
Aiding the Lewis win was a solid performance from the free throw line, as the Flyers knocked down 86.4% (19-for-22) of their charity tosses.
UIS shot 44.6% (25-for-56) from the field and 22.7% (5-for-22) from three-point range, while the Flyers connected on 43.6% (24-for-55) of their field goal attempts and 26.7% (4-for-15) of their shots from beyond the arc.
Lewis returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 2), as the Flyers head to Liberty, Mo., for a 5:30 PM showdown with William Jewell.
